Democratic Convention: Recap of Invesco Field Denver 2008 (VIDEO)
A Little Glowing, as Well We Should
It is a monumental moment you will witness only once in the lifetime of this country. Thursday night August 28th 2008, 45 years to the day after Martin Luther King discussed his dream of reaching the mountain top, Barack Obama accepted the nomination of the Democratic Party to become the first African-American nominee for a major party to be President of the United States.
The event, held in Denver’s Mile High Stadium with an audience of 84,000, was astonishing to say the least. Following a string of speeches by local legislators and musical interludes by a number of artists including Sharon Crowe and Stevie Wonder the many stars of the Democratic party began giving among the most moving and reasonable argument to date for the election of Barack Obama to the office of President.
The Real Story
But, alas, that is not what I am here to discuss. If you are interested in learning more about that go to the huffingtonpost.com. What needs to be discussed is the electric nature of this years electorate. Take a look at this video of the eruption of the crowd of over 84,000 people as Barack Obama finishes his speech:
The speech, which has been called “the best convention speech in history” by Conservative collumnist and one time GOP Presidential candidate Pat Buchanan, was not only attended by the highest number in convention history but was also watched by nearly 39 million people worldwide.
Inside the stadium, as you will see in the video above, the excitement of the crowd was palpable and visceral and felt as only a gathering of a grand shared purpose could. With every additional speaker running up to the speech titled “The American Promise” every person in the stadium was on a giddy edge that could only be produced by Obama kool-aid which was oddly enough not even on sale (I looked).
Before the speech they played a moving and well made biography video which you can view below. After that video Barack Obama proudly strode onto the stage to accept the historic nomination. As Sen. Obama spoke the audience, which had spent most of the day quite loud in anticipation, was rapt with the content of his words. Occasionally the powerful nature of the inspirational moment would cause the crowd to explode in uproarious cheers as it did when Sen. Obama declared “I humbly accept your nomination for President of the United States of America.”
This was easily one of the most important days of my life and undeniably of this country’s history.
